We took a winter's stroll from Chelmsford to writtle to visit as we knew after the hours walk we would be treated to delightful food. As usual we weren't disappointed we both had the ploughman's with cheese, ham and turkey and it was fresh, the roll was still warm, the portion was huge and everything was yummy. We just about had room for dessert the toffee and pecan roulade and the Lennon cheesecake, both were ok but nothing to write home about. It was busy as usual which is always a good sign for a restaurant however the service didn't seem to be under control so things were taking longer than they should. Overall very pleasant

Great cafe. Only place I can find to buy alcohol free and vegetarian Christmas pudding

I love these tearooms. Lovely staff and great food. Would recommend it.

Very welcoming and cozy cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. Good menu selection catering for a variety of dietary requirements. Seems to be a popular spot for cyclists to stop off for a cup of tea or slice of cake. Set in the grounds of Writtle College, it has a nice little buzz whilst seeming very rural. A short walk into the quaint village of Writtle and slightly longer walk into Chelmsford. Would recommend

Oh dear! Read on.......Usually good food. Good service. Extensive choice on menu. Can get busy but still service with a smile. Informal lunches and afternoon tea. All year round with seating outside in summer. Very pleasant. Shame it closes it's doors early in winter.Usually visit weekdays. Just visited again Saturday lunchtime. I requested Mediterranean Vegetable Quiche. Very disappointed. The only vegetable was a half of a slice of mushroom (I think) and an even smaller piece of tomato. Extremely dry on one edge. Shame.
